Periodontal surgery
Periodontal surgery, also known as recession treatment, deals with the regeneration of the periodontal apparatus, for example in the case of soft tissue defects such as receding gums, the partial exposure of tooth roots or damaged bone.
In addition to the health aspect and functional rehabilitation – painful exposed tooth necks, the risk of root caries or gum recession, which is almost always associated with bone recession – recession treatment is also carried out from an aesthetic point of view.
Depending on the defect and the desired treatment goal, a distinction is made between different types of therapy, such as: gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, flap surgery, resective furcation therapy, guided tissue regeneration, recession coverage and tunnelling.
